Tess Vigeland, Host
A graduate of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., Vigeland is a familiar voice to Marketplace and Marketplace Money listeners. She is a longtime public radio veteran, both as a reporter and host. Vigeland served as host of Marketplace Morning Report for three and a half years and as substitute host on Marketplace. Prior to joining the team at Marketplace, Vigeland reported and anchored for Oregon Public Broadcasting radio and television in Portland and at WBUR radio in Boston. She has covered numerous national and international stories, including the Northern Ireland peace talks in Belfast, the New England mob trials and the separate but tandem scandals around former U.S. Senator Bob Packwood and figure skater Tonya Harding. Vigeland has earned numerous awards in her reporting career, including five Associated Press awards and three from the Society of Professional Journalists. For her coverage of the Packwood scandal, she received a Corporation for Public Broadcasting Silver Award.
Chris Farrell, Economics Editor
Chris brings more than 25 years of experience in economics and personal finance journalism to Sound Money, now Marketplace Money. In addition to his central role on the show, he serves as the personal finance expert on Marketplace Morning Report. He's also contributing editor at Business Week magazine. He hosts public television's personal finance program Right on the Money and is the author of the show's companion book Right on the Money: Taking Control of Your Personal Finances. Chris' newest book, Deflation: What Happens When Prices Fall, was just published by HarperBusiness. He's also a journalist with American RadioWorks and a graduate of Stanford and The London School of Economics.
Wendy Sykes, Senior Producer
Before joining Marketplace Productions in 2003, Wendy Sykes lived and worked in public radio at KUOW-Seattle. After reporting for KUOW for a year, she launched the political-satire program Rewind, which aired locally for one year and nationally for four years. Rewind was the recipient of two grants from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and was named Best Entertainment Program by the New York Festivals in 2001. The show was awarded for its 2000 election coverage, "Mock the Vote." Before being called to producing, Wendy was a radio and print reporter for four years, a publicist for the film industry and deputy press secretary for a Republican U.S. Senator.
