Slideshow Former Host Michael Creedman (1989-1990)
| Back in 1989, we were a scrappy start-up radio program housed in a suburban strip mall next to the Merry Maids cleaning service in Long Beach, Calif. We sat on cardboard boxes of computer paper, had single-line phones, and built a studio whose door wouldn’t stay closed. We wanted to create a business program that was both intelligent and witty; and we wanted it to appeal to a much broader audience than just "businessmen." With that vision, Marketplace was born, the "business show for the rest of us." And, what a fantastic ride it has been.
Fifteen years, 7.6 million listeners, four hosts, one duPont-Columbia and a Peabody later, we are now the most popular business program on radio or television in the country. Although more people turn to Marketplace for business news than any other program, at heart, we are as scrappy as ever. That's because our hunger to be relevant and exciting has not diminished with the passing of time or our humbling success. We haven’t strayed from our belief that what we do is important to those we serve in the public radio community.

| The world has changed a lot in the last 15 years, and so have we -- but then again, we haven't. We still treat each broadcast with the same enthusiasm, vitality and determination as we did in those days back in Long Beach. And in today's world, our work has become even more important to listeners everywhere. We hope to continue this beautiful partnership for many years to come.
